    Zachary Taylor: Brief
    Zachary Taylor, the 12th President took office in 1849, born in Verginia. He was war hero like George
    Washington and Andrew Jackson, died in office like William Henry Harrison. Taylor was officially elected as a member of the Whig party, but he considered himself an independent. His family-owned a number of enslaved people and over 4,000 hectares of land. Taylor wanted to be a soldier, and he became an officer in the U.s Army. Taylor married, Margretta Smith, when he was 24 years old, and they had five daughters and one son.
    Zachary Taylor tried to keep piece between Native American tribes and white Americans. In Mexican American War of the 1840s, he became really famous, he held U. S troops to victory in several major battels, including ones at Monterrey and Buena Vista. On the issue to permit slavery in new lands won at the end of the war with Mexican’s public opinion was severely divided of the next U.S presidential election, but both parties, Democrats and Whig wanted Taylor to be their candidate for President.
    Historian Michel Hot said,” the most popular man in the America”. Taylor mostly wanted to keep the nation together. Taylor attended outdoor celebrations to mark the nation’s birthday, July 4. He went for a walk, weather was very hot, he ate uncooked fruit and iced milk, that night, he told others about pain in his stomach. After five days later he died.
