How to Get Organized (Article 5)

Organizing is a skill that most people possess but rarely use. Even if you’re the most organized person in the world, you still need to master the art of staying organized.

Staying organized is easy when you’ve got everything you need at hand, but when you’re short on space or time, it can be a real challenge. This post provides tips for getting organized without making things too complicated or taking up too much time.

1. Have a place for everything

Start by organizing your desk, then your kitchen, and finally your home office. This is a great way to get used to the process of organizing. If you’re having trouble getting started, try putting a box or two in each room and moving items from there to your storage container. You’ll feel more comfortable when you’re in a new environment.

2. Label everything

This is a critical first step that will help you stay organized. Pick a label maker that works well for you and don’t skimp on the ink. Once you start labeling things, you’ll want to keep labels around for everything.

3. Set up a filing system

Pick a place to store your files, and start putting them there. If you’re short on space, you can always go paperless and have folders automatically created on your computer. If you’re short on time, you can always scan documents and store them digitally.

4. Get rid of clutter

Your storage container isn’t a dumping ground for anything. It’s a place to store things that are important to you. If you have something that doesn’t belong there, take it out. Keep an eye out for anything that could potentially clutter your space.
