Lesson 15- The President of the U.S.A.
” Franklin Pierce” ineffective
Franklin Pierce was a good looking and social President. The term of his presidency was 1853 to 1857 and he was the 14th president of United State. Franklin Pierce was born in northern state of New Hampshire. He was an excellent public speaker and ab able lawyer. Pierce married Jane Means Appleton and had three sons, but his first son soon died after only three days. When he resigned his job in the Senate moved back to New Hampshire and earned from as a lawyer and public speaker, his second son became sick and died.
Franklin Pierce helped the democratic candidate for President at the terms Jame K. Polk. Pierce got a position as a general in the Mexican War, but did not earn the respect of his troop. In one battel Franklin Pierce fell of his horse and crushed his leg. Peirce nomination came during Democratic national convention in 1852, because the party leaders were split the three top choices. So, the party turned to Franklin Pierce. Pierce won easily because many voters specially in the South, did not like his opponent. He faced significant challenges during his tenure. Pierce signed the Kansas- Nebraska Act, which allowed settlers in those Territo ties to decide whether to allow slavery. This descion angered anti- slavery groups and intensified sectional tension. His Presidency was marked by divisive decisions related to slavery.Contibuting to the nation’s eventual fracture. His inability to effectively address their issues left on lasting impact on American History.
