American English Idioms.
1) Axe to grind: The meaning of this phrase is, if someone has an axe to grind, they are doing something for selfish reason. For example, I am taking interest in the math, but believe me I have not an axe to grind.
2) Back to square one: When you are back to square, one, it means you have to start over from the beginning, when a plane fails, and you need to begin a new, you are back to square. For example, we will be back to square one where a number of countries wanted to go their own way. somehow, I feel that we are back to square one.
3) Back to drawing Board: This phrase also refers, to starting over, if the initial plan does not work out, they go back to the drawing board to revise it, so when any project or idea fails, we say, let’s go back to the drawing .
